  5. Congratulations on selecting a PUMA Shareware product.  At PUMA we
  6. are dedicated to producing quality software that is straigh-
  7. forward and easy to use so that the student can concentrate on
  8. mastering the lessons.  You can master the program in less than 5
  9. minutes and will not find lots of switches or options to learn.
  10.  
  11. Spelling GREMLINS will teach you to spell correctly 100 of the 300
  12. most commonly misspelled words.  It is fashioned around the 
  13. question and answer format of FLASHCARDS.  The word definitions
  14. presented should be treated as memory joggers and not definitions.
  15. A dictionary should be consulted for actual definitions and to
  16. understand the full context of the meanings.

  24. Getting started:
  25.  
  26. At startup you will be given a choice of starting level (1 - 5).
  27. Start with level 1 and then select level 2 after mastering it.
  28.  
  29. The only other thing you need to know is how to get out of the
  30. program if you want to return to the operating system.  That's
  31. easy, press <CTRL e> followed by <Enter>.
  32.  
  33. So you start up and are presented with a question, and you haven't
  34. got a clue.  Take a wild guess or just press the enter key.  
  35. FLASHCARD will beep and display the correct "Answer" above your 
  36. input.  The cursor then travels to the upper right corner of the 
  37. screen where it waits for you to <hit any key>.  Note the
  38. difference between your input and the correct answer and then bump
  39. a key for the next question.

  41. You will likely strike out 10 or more  times before you complete
  42. the set successfully.  When you make a error, the question will 
  43. repeat after a few times.

  45. In each lesson, the student is presented with 5 sets of 10 cards.
  46. Each set is called a level and the program randomly selects from
  47. the 10 cards, 50 times.  The object is to complete the 50 
  48. questions without incurring more that two errors (three "Strikes"
  49. and you're out).  If you get the third strike, the high score is
  50. updated and you start over.  Typically you would start with level
  51. one and repeat it until you have "Successfully" completed it 10
  52. times.

  54. At level two, you will be presented with a second set of 10 cards.
  55. At level two you work your way through the 2nd set and then the
  56. first set (you already know these), until you have completed both
  57. sets "Successfully" 10 times.

  59. By the time you get to level 5 you will work your way from level 5
  60. to level 4 to level 3 to level 2 to level 1.  As you progress
  61. through the series, the questions seem easier.

  67. When you have mastered lesson 1 continue with lesson 2.  I like
  68. to go back and review all previous lessons after completing a 
  69. lesson.  The repetition and review will quickly make these words
  70. yours to command.

  76. lessons included with this shareware version contain 100
  77. spelling words.  If you find these lessons useful, you are
  78. encouraged to register.  REGISTERED USERS will receive the
  79. complete course of 6 lessons containing the 300 most commonly 
  80. misspelled words.  They will also receive any future revisions
  81. of the program, become eligible for custom programming and
  82. discounts on other Puma Shareware programs.
